Students at Central Middle School have participated in a regional math meet with students from SeDoMoCha and Dexter for several years. Each year, a different school hosts the meet and the others travel to the host school. COVID has offered a challenge to this tradition as schools have worked to minimize cross-contamination between schools and students. As we work to return to a degree of pre-covid normalcy and offer students opportunities to engage with activities they enjoy, offering students a chance to participate in the math meet has been a goal.
On Wednesday, November 10, students from SeDoMoCha traveled to CMS to compete in the math meet. Students from Ridge View in Dexter were not able to travel to us, but they participated virtually via zoom. While this is not technically our pre-covid normal, it was a compromise that allowed students to engage in an activity they enjoy. For many of our students, the math meet was a completely new experience. All students did a great job and performed well.
A special Thank You goes out to Ms. Oliver for organizing and hosting the meet. Any student who wishes to join the math team should consider attending practices. Dates and times are shared in the announcements each week. Questions can be addressed to Ms. Oliver.
