COVID-19 School Closure Update from Superintendent Sperrey

Good Afternoon.

I trust this communication finds families and students in good health and enjoying this beautiful spring day.

Clearly, it has become inevitable that RSU 64 extend the remote learning we currently have in place through the remainder of the school year.  This is not a decision we take lightly but, in alignment with the Governor’s recommendations, and her recently distributed plan for reopening of businesses, school buildings will clearly remain closed to in person teaching and learning throughout the rest of the school year. We are working on ways we can provide limited access to the school buildings while maintaining recommended physical distancing guidelines, so students can clean out lockers, return items, and visit their school building one last time before heading off for summer vacation. Once we have these opportunities in place, we will be communicating details to you.

We are also working on plans for a graduation ceremony for seniors and potential late summer opportunities for ‘step up’ events for new middle school and high school students.  Again, details will be coming out about these things as plans become more definite.

I cannot thank you enough for your support and encouragement of the district, administrators, teachers, and staff, during this time. I am confident we will get through this together and will be stronger on the other side.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call your student’s school. We are here to help.

Be well,

Superintendent Sperrey
